GCFA Cup action for Glasgow Island as they attempted to reach the quarter finals on a pitch tighter than a bankrupt Aberdonian and with more bumps than the American economy, Glasgow ANSAR providing the opposition.

In the late evening sun, the islanders made a bright start, Benji keeping his feet and getting a good shot away and then Daniel dribbling into the box and having his attempt saved.
The pressure was mounting and after ten minutes Daniel Moran burst onto a through ball and tidily lobbed the ANSAR keeper for the opener. 1-0 Islands !!!!!
Glasgow Island continued to create chances, the luckless Archie seeing efforts drift wide before a half volley from Dec burst the net for the second, some observers suggesting the ball took a touch off a defender on the way into the goal. 2-0 Islands !!!!!!!
A third goal followed shortly afterwards, Daniel lifting the ball over the last defender and flicking home. 3-0 !!!!
In the fading light, it evokes memories of Pele in the 1958 World Cup Final, and at least one touchline reporter mentioned ‘that’ Drybourgh Cup Final
The early stages of the second half saw both teams make changes, substitutes Chris and David impressing for the islanders.
This was a classic performance from Island and with the Glasgow Island defence fully in control the cup tie seemed to be petering out, before two late goal.
The first wast from Anton making it four with another shot which may have taken a slight deflection. 4-0 Islands !!!!
Archie McNicol got his usual goal and finished off the scoring by rounding the keeper after an excellent clearance from midfield maestro Robin Harvey. 5-0 Islands !!!!
The two late goals gave the scoreline a more generous margin of victory. A well earned win for Glasgow Islands who go into the pot for the last eight of the prestigious old competition.
Final score: Glasgow Ansar 0-5 Glasgow Island
