GDSFC – FOOTBALL MEMORIES POLLOKSHIELDS UNITED

🛡️🏆 MOTHERWELL ALBION V POLLOKSHIELDS UNITED 🏆🛡️

Match reports

Going into the game, in order to win the league, the shields had to just get at least 1 point. But they would have to do it against 2nd place Motherwell Albion who needed 3 points. It was a game full of emotion, stress, anxiety, joy and relief.

The shields were all ready missing 3 instrumental key players due to holidays etc so the team was reshuffled but we knew anyone stepping onto that park would give everything.

The shields started off well, staying composed on the ball and knocking it about. They began chapping on the door and testing the Motherwell back line but all in all a rather cagey opening 15 minutes.

Motherwell Albion almost got in front through an accurate threw ball playing in their striker but Lewis came out and saved it taking a bad kick to the face in the process.

This was a wake up call for the shields as they knew 0-0 was a dangerous score line and the longer it stayed that way it would benefit Motherwell more.

The shields HAD to score. The shields got that goal through some excellent passing starting from the back. A delightful bit of play from Carney down the left hand side and then whipped in pin point accurate cross for Albian who met it with a thunderous header into the back of the net, all the keeper could do , was watch in despair. 1-0 POLLOKSHIELDS

Big game, big players. Soon after Motherwell started pushing up but the back line of Dylan, Paul and Brandon stood firm thwarting any chance of a goal before half time.

The half time team talk was simple. 45 minutes of hard work. 45 minutes to win a league title.

The second half started off rather cagey as well but Motherwell probably started the better team.

They began searching for an equaliser and putting balls into the box but Lewis was commanding his area well catching and punching anything that came.

Our midfield were superb, chasing down everything. Jett, Jonny and Conner flung themselves into everything, winning the ball back and fouling when needed.

They done especially well in the heat which was at one point 26 degrees. However, Motherwell Albion were awarded a corner and scored from it with a great header to the top corner, the celebrations were wild as spectators began to ran on the pitch and celebrate. Albion 1 Shields 1 !!!!!

What followed was probably the most stressful 20 minutes of the shields season. The shields had to dig in.

Albian, our striker was doing doggies back and forth, the big man ran himself into the ground. Cammy was chasing down loose balls and trying to take the ball into their half as much as possible.

10 minutes from time Motherwell Albion we’re awarded a free kick and almost scored from it if it wasn’t for a diving header from Alan Nassadi who was a rock when he came on.

Paul Kilday was also handling the right flank well, winning headers and not letting anything get past him.

5 minutes from time Motherwell almost got their winner through a strike to the bottom corner which was well saved by Lewis (the quickest he has moved all season).

Eventually, the league was won 🥇 🏆

Final score: Motherwell Albion 1 v 1 Pollokshields 🛡️

Overall, a good first half from the shields. The second half Motherwell were the better team and as the shields boys had to forget tactics and just do the right thing at the right time and dig in. However, we done that mattered and boys rose to the occasion. Commiserations to Motherwell Albion who were on our toes all season, a very decent side and unlucky to lose out on the last day of the season. All the best for best season 👏

The shields would also like to express their thanks to everyone who have supported us through thick and think this season. The support does not, and never has, gone unnoticed. It was a tough season for the lads and now it’s time for them to rest and relax and enjoy their summer.

Best day of the week 🛡️ ❤️🏆
