After an incredible victory on sunday we take a look into two men who more than played their part in helping their team through to the next round of the competition.

Pollokshields United really turned up on Sunday and produced a scintillating performance to put themselves into the next round of the West Cup.

New Feature!! As we reflect back on Sundays massive win taking Pollokshields into the quarterfinals of the JST Electronics West District Cup, we took some time to ask our Captain – Jett Docherty & vice captain Dec McCafferty some questions about Sundays win…

Name – Jett Docherty Position – CM

How does it feel to get the win on Sunday and progress to the quarter finals?

Very happy about going through to the quarter but that’s where we got to last year so would like to push on this year and get to the semis hopefully then onto the final

What was the key to sunday’s victory?

The Key part for us was we stuck by each other and didn’t let the heads go down when we went behind but the main key was Murray save which I think pushed us on to go get the winner.

Did the team have a specific game plan, and do you feel the team executed it well?

The team switched on quick to notice Irvine Rangers weakest was the full backs so started playing the ball out wide which got us more chances. Also quickly realise that Irvine rangers liked to play for the park so with a high press from us changed their game plan

Were there any moments in the match where you thought the result might go the other way?

Yes, Irvine rangers made a few subs which strengthen their team and gave them the better chance of winning the game also with the penalty but thanks Murray stepping up for us with a brilliant save.

Who would you say was the standout performer for your team Sunday?

For me I think Murray not just for the penalty save but for a few more important saves, I feel there was a few players that never got praised enough such as waqaas who played in the middle with me then got moved to RB excellent game done everything he was asked to do, Mickey was playing left back for us with his composure and calmness helped settled the team as he does week in week out

What does this win mean for the team reaching quarter final.?

It means a lot to myself and the boys especially the win it the way we did but that games done and we now concentrate on the next game. And I think it shows how competitive our league is with 6 out of the 8 teams in our league which shows we’re competing with the best.

looking at the teams in the draw who would you like and least like to draw ??

There’s not anyone in particularly as if you want to be the best you’ve got to beat these team on your way to do so.

How does it feel to get the win on Sunday and progress to the quarter finals?

It feels amazing, felt like a proper cup tie and still feel buzzing off the back of Jett’s last minute winner. Shows when we get a good team there then we can compete and out perform some of the top teams in the completion. Can’t wait for the next round for the chance to get into the semi finals

What was the key to sunday’s victory?

Other than playing me as a star striker of course. Think we picked a really strong team, felt like there was a real togetherness in the squad and everyone was fighting for each other and giving everything to get the win.

Did the team have a specific game plan, and do you feel the team executed it well?

felt like the game plan worked well, we wanted to press them high so they either had to go long or they would make the mistake, definitely think it worked as they resorted to firing the ball long more often than not, which played into our hands as our defence were dominant in the air. We used the width really well going forward as well with carney and myky both getting assists and causing both fullbacks all sorts of bother, something we work on regularly at training.

Were there any moments in the match where you thought the result might go the other way?

other than when they got a penalty, I thought we were fully dominant in the game, they did have a short spell in the second half where they were putting pressure on us but I thought the goals we did concede were easily avoidable and we ended up making the game appear a lot tighter than it was playing in it.

Who would you say was the standout performer for your team Sunday?

I thought carney was having a really good first half in particular, so much so they had to make the change to keep him quiet in the second half, Murray came out with some massive saves in the game too but overall think absolutely everyone on the park had a good game and battled well

What does this win mean for the team & The league reaching quarter final?

it’s a massive win for us, we had a tough start to the season but as a team we have came on leaps and bounds since then, a lot down to the training we are getting allowing us to take what we practice into these games. I think this win will give the team a lot more confidence that we can go compete with anyone. The fact that 6/8 of the teams are within our league shows the standard we play at in relation to the rest of the country and shows that our league is full of really strong teams

I’d take any of them after the confidence boost that that game has given us but if I had to pick I would least like to draw castlemilk in the next round purely as we have struggled against them in the past and I think that will be a really tough game for us and most likely either one of the teams who aren’t in our league for a bit of a change
